Everyday, I'm posting a message on Twitter. That message will serve as the first (in bold) sentence for short written posts I have below.
We must never doubt our toughness in life because we can overcome any obstacles. It might take months or even years but we’ll come ahead and move closer to our definition of success.
We are all very tough regardless of what we believe. We haven’t come this far only to be defeated by the challenges thrown our way. Sure, it gets difficult and we consider quitting. However, we won’t regret it if we keep going until we pull out what seemed like the most unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat. That feeling is more exhilarating than anything else we’ll experience in life.
The greatest victories in life come from challenges with the most hardship. We all experience those and know that feeling. Think about accepting a difficult task or assignment we don’t believe we can complete. Through lots of struggles and hard work, we finish it with flying colors. Even if no one else praises us for our accomplishment, we feel proud about our own ability to surpass our previous limits.
What are our limits? We cannot define them if we keep breaking them because, at that point, we don’t believe we have limits until we cannot push any further. This might take years and, even then, we might still discover more potentially we never thought we possessed. In the meantime, we move one step at a time towards our success and nobody can stop us.
Of course, the success we pursue is defined by us. Other people have no say into it because they don’t know what potential we possess. They don’t know what limits we broke. They don’t know the struggles we overcame to reach today and the challenges we will welcome to bring out more of our inner talent to reach a future others cannot even imagine.
_____
We have no limits if we aim higher. After all, is the limit we broke yesterday still a limit today? If we keep striving for greatness, limits serve as nothing more than obstacles in life.
Our lack of confidence in ourselves and doubt in our abilities often create limits we don’t think we can overcome. We reached a point in life where we think we reached the pinnacle of our life. We wish we can reach higher but the sad truth is that we don’t believe that anymore. When we stop believing, we essentially put limits that never existed there in the first place.
What we must realize is that humans have limits but, as history has shown, we don’t know those limits. Too often, we put artificial limits on ourselves. We tell ourselves that we cannot do well on a test and, when we don’t do well, we feel like our claim is justified. Yet, the outcome can be very different if we studied a lot more and worked a lot harder in class.
Since we were very young, we started breaking our limits. We didn’t know how to walk at one point. We took a few steps and fell every single time. Bit by bit, we mastered it and walking is second nature for most of us now. What happened to those limits? They stopped existing when we broke through them and that’s still the case regardless what age we’re at. Limits are meant to be broken.
Instead of viewing limits as a boundary we couldn’t get past, we should merely see them as obstacles. They serve as walls in our path so we must find a way to get past them. We can jump over, get around or go under them. Regardless of how, we can get past those limits to gain access to new opportunities in life. Limits are, in a way, small trials testing if we’re ready to go to the next stage.
_____
We shouldn’t see boundaries as impenetrable walls that reach the sky. Instead, we should see them as fences that cannot hold us in and it’s only a matter of time before we get past them.
We had days when we were faced with overcoming odds. The challenges seemed so incredible we don’t even know where to begin. We feel like we’re standing before an impenetrable wall that reaches the sky. We couldn’t bring out the belief that we can overcome this obstacle to see what’s on the other side. We feel far more comfortable staying on our side of the boundary.
We set our boundaries and limits in life. We make the call when we stop moving forward when life gets real tough. We choose to remain in our comfort zone because we are too afraid to venture into the unknown alone. Yet, we can also believe in our abilities. We can see the impenetrable wall as a tall fence that we can get past sooner or later. We decide how we move forward in life.
The biggest critic we face in life is our self. Nobody else can put more fear or doubt into us than our own mind. We might have no reason to fear something but our mind provides the worst case scenario. For instance, we might want to ask a person out. Chances are we might get a simple no and that’s the end of it. Instead, our mind plays the scenario where we are publicly humiliated and we have to move elsewhere to start anew.
The boundaries and limits are created by our mind. If we train our mind, we can put those boundaries further than anyone thought was possible. After all, we weren’t born with a manual stating our limits in life. Nobody knows our true limits until we reach that point. Sadly, too many of us have given up long before we even come close to finding out what our true limits are.
_____
We are our biggest critic. We either kill our own dreams by believing we are incapable or we possess the stubbornness to keep going with our dreams others believe is impossible.
While we encounter a lot of critics in our lives, the biggest critic has to be ourselves. When we encounter failures in life, we are the hardest on ourselves. We say things other critics tend to avoid. We call ourselves losers. We tell ourselves that we are useless. We see ourselves as a nobody who won’t ever accomplish anything great in life.
Since we are the hardest on ourselves, we tend to kill our dreams when things aren’t going our way. By convincing ourselves that we are hopeless and useless, we don’t believe that we are capable of pursuing the dreams we once thought was possible. We are destined for failure the moment we stopped believing in ourselves and start doubting our every move.
Yet, we also see people who find great success in life. It’s not that they aren’t their own biggest critic. It’s just that they possess a stubbornness and a vision that prevents their biggest critic from deciding their future. These people don’t see an impossible dream before them. Instead, they just see obstacles that they must overcome until they reached their dreams.
As we proceed forward in our dreams, our biggest critic has less and less to say. We eventually come to the point where even our inner critic is silenced. At that point, we know we came a long way because critics can no longer say anything. We have surpassed even their expectations and, by then, we have developed the skills and mindset to complete the journey leading to our dreams.
_____
We must realize that dreams don’t happen quickly. At the very beginning, we can invest a lot of time and effort but we won’t see any progress. Don’t give up and keep going!
Nowadays, we are very impatient with life. The existence of smart phones and other gadgets gives us access to a lot of instant gratification. Dreams aren’t most things we have in life. They are defined as a pinnacle of one’s life and, to reach that peak, we must be willing to invest a lot more time and effort than we thought is necessary compared to other daily tasks we have.
For most people, they have realized that lots of hard work and time doesn’t even result in any progress at the start. That’s normal for us because we aren’t doing anything valuable at the beginning. At the start, we are very inefficient. We might invest twenty hours into a task when we’re only getting one hour of work out of it. Only through repetition and the eagerness to learn can we improve our efficiency.
Dreams normally take a few years, if not many years, to come true. The instant success we see on the internet or television often doesn’t show the sacrifices and hard work people invested prior to their success. That’s why we get the false impression that dreams come very easily and, if a few months passed and nothing good happened, we might as well give up as the dream isn’t for us.
Even when no progress is seen, we must keep going because we’ll eventually see the fruits of our labor. We must never forget about the journey itself can be exciting. We can meet likeminded people and encounter life changing events. If we are so focused on the destination, we not only miss out on what the journey has to offer but also lose hope when that destination doesn’t appear to be any closer.
_____
We must be willing to ask others for help! This isn’t a sign of weakness but, instead, the recognition that we don’t have the ability to make our dreams come true yet.
Many of us aren’t willing to ask for help, even when we need it desperately. We see this as a sign of weakness because we don’t want to be a burden to others. We feel like we’re being exceptionally selfish by seeking help in solving problems in our own lives. Most importantly, we fear the rejection and criticism we’ll get from the person or people we seek help from.
We severely hinder our ability to reach new heights if we are unwilling to find help. It’s true we all have great potential within us and some of us are talented when we are young. If we go through life relying solely on ourselves, we’ll discover that we make very slow progress. After all, how many of us can read, write and do basic math without a teacher?
As we become adults, we are clearer on what we want to accomplish in life. We have a job we need to not only pay for our expenses but also serve as the first step of our career. It’s true we can learn a lot simply by working at the place. Yet, imagine how much more we can accomplish if we can find a great mentor who has worked decades in the industry and has plenty of wisdom to share?
When we seek help, we aren’t showing our weakness. Nobody has all the answers, especially when we are new to a field. Our initiative to ask questions shows that we care about our work. It shows that we aren’t willing to settle for mediocrity when we can strive for so much more. The more we are willing to ask, the more knowledge we’ll accumulate than those who are too afraid to do so.
_____
Competition alone sees us not going far in our dreams. Without cooperating with others, we only tap into a small portion of our potential and wonder why dreams don’t come true.
In our society, we are very focused on competition. We are trying to outdo all of our coworkers and try to be the best at our workplace. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be the best but, too often, we are sacrificing a lot to become the best. We use other people and we might betray them. We do things we aren’t proud of to reach the top and, when we do, we don’t always feel proud of our methods to get to where we’re at.
When we are in situations where everyone is for him or herself, we are really hurting ourselves. We are so busy in the politics of rising up at our workplace that we aren’t tapping into our potential doing what we’re great at. We are hesitant to share our ideas because we fear others will steal it from us. We don’t want to help others because we fear they’ll use this to rise quickly in ranks and become our superior.
Too many workplaces are fostering such toxic environment which greatly hinders the growth of the company. The owners of these companies fail to realize that cooperation is equally important as competition. There has to be a balance between the two or nothing great can be accomplished. The company will do the minimum of what’s needed to survive but that’s all it will achieve as the employees will do just enough to not get fired.
Dreams don’t come true without sacrifices and hard work but we are fools if we believe that we can do it alone. Even the greatest people today have a team backing them to make the seemingly impossible possible. We start our journey alone but we will eventually realize that a single person only has two hands and 24 hours in a day while a team will have a lot more hands and much more hours in a day.
