Everyday, I'm posting a message on Twitter. That message will serve as the first (in bold) sentence for short written posts I have below.
To reach new heights, we must make sacrifices to get there. If we are unwilling to make sacrifices, then we just aren’t committed enough to bring positive change into our lives.
In life, we always want to strive higher. Different people have different goals but they all want a better life overall. For most of us, we want to achieve financial freedom where we can do whatever we want and be who we are without worrying about the shortage of money. In a society where most people have debts, this seems like the ideal situation to live one’s life.
While most of us have similar goals in life, we aren’t all willing to invest the same amount of resources to get there. Some people think that, if they wait long enough, something incredible will happen and their life will change forever. This might come in the form of a lottery but, as studies have shown, the majority of the lottery winners find themselves worse off after winning.
Sitting around won’t get us closer to our dreams and our ideal situation. Hard work is always needed if we want to make progress in life. Hard work cannot happen if we aren’t willing to invest more time. With so many distractions in life, we really need to learn how to discipline ourselves so we can focus on whatever is needed to get to our destination.
In a way, this is like a financial investment. We don’t expect to get more money if we just keep our money under our bed. Relying on bank interest won’t get us very far and some of the more profitable investments have risks. In our lives, we control how much we are willing to invest into our future so, the more we invest now, the more we’ll enjoy later.
_____
For most of us, we have two choices to make in life. We either enjoy the present and pay the price in the future or sacrifice a lot in the present to create a better future for ourselves.
In an ideal world, we get to have both a better present and a better future. However, we don’t live in an ideal world. We do live in a fair world though where we pay a price to have a better life. We get to choose what sort of life we enjoy and, if things go poorly, we have no one to blame other than ourselves. The question is whether we want a better present or a better future.
When we are young, we want to enjoy life by going to parties and doing other fun things. There’s nothing wrong with this but we must know the consequences of doing these things. For many of us, having fun at this age means we invest less time in our studies and/or our dreams. Time is a resource that is gone permanently so we won’t remain young forever.
Some people fail school because they didn’t invest enough time. Others find themselves doing jobs they hate but, due to various commitments in life, they have to stay there and, as a result, hate their life. To enjoy the present, these people have sacrificed their future. They have to work hard later to make a living and their options are limited due to a number of reasons like age and experience in a workplace.
In contrast, there are those who work like madmen when they were young. They invest all of their time and effort in their school and/or dream. They don’t get to do fun things when they’re young. They don’t even have many friends because others see them as weird and outcasts. Yet, their hard work eventually pays off because they get the high paying jobs that get them closer to financial freedom.
_____
Being different isn’t bad because we are all unique in our own way. When we try to be just like others, that’s when we suppress the real us and prevent our gift from being shared with the world.
In society, people are shunned for their differences. The odd kid at school gets bullied. Nobody at work wants to hang out with the weird person who does things differently. Too often, we are too quick to judge others based on our brief interaction with them. We don’t take the time to know those people better and, as result, we miss out on opportunities meeting great people.
The reason why we’re often so different is our uniqueness. We are all unique since none of us have exactly the same thing in life. Even twins live life differently because, at times, they’ll be at two different places at the same time and experience something their twin didn’t. What’s happening in our society is effectively suppressing the uniqueness that truly makes all of us special.
Instead of shunning it, we should celebrate our differences. It’s our differences that make the world so interesting. After all, we won’t enjoy a life where everyone we meet talks like us and acts the same. It would be so predictable since we know what we’ll do in the situation. It’s the diversity and the unexpected surprises that make life so interesting and exciting.
Our uniqueness also gives us a special gift that nobody else possesses. It’s true that other people might be better at certain things than you but the same can be said vice versa. The gift we possess might take time to uncover and develop but it will make the world a better place as soon as we share it with others.
_____
We all possess an incredible unique gift. To share this gift with the world, we mustn’t let critics and obstacles stand in our way and we mustn’t talk ourselves out of pursuing our dreams.
It’s quite common for us to think we are ordinary people with nothing special about us. There’s always someone in our class or work that seems to be better at everything. Yet, we are making a terrible mistake if we are comparing ourselves with others when, instead, we should be improving ourselves until we find the incredible gift we possess.
Even when we discover our gift, we still have many challenges ahead of us. Critics are one of the biggest challenges because they’ll make us feel inferior and unpractical. However, these critics don’t know us as well as we know ourselves so what made them think they’re experts? In addition to critics, we also have numerous obstacles like the lack of resources such as time and money.
The challenges mentioned above pale in comparison with our self-doubt and lack of confidence. If we are determined, nothing in life can stop us. If we keep second guessing ourselves and don’t believe in ourselves, then we are destined to fail because overcoming the challenges takes unwavering commitment regardless of what we face in life.
Once we are committed, we must make clear what we want to do with our life. Here is where dreams come in. Why do we have dreams? Dreams are often seemingly impossible goals that take lots of hard work and time to reach. What makes dreams possible is the gift we possess within us because our gifts serve as the key to unlocking our full potential and let loose the amazing things we can share with the world to make it a better place.
_____
We get in a habit of comparing ourselves to other people when we should really be comparing ourselves to our old self and constantly improve to be better than before.
We all had days when we feel envy towards someone who does better than us. We watched the teacher praise a student who did perfect on a test. We saw a coworker who was getting employee of the month. Oftentimes, we wanted those for ourselves so, when we don’t get it, we get frustrated and, at times, inferior as we see ourselves lesser than other people.
Sometimes, these feelings are great motivators as they force us to work harder to get to our goals. However, we are mostly seeking recognition to feel good about ourselves. We want to feel competent in the eyes of others and not gaining that recognition can make us feel like a failure. The more we seek recognition, the less we are living our own lives since we are trying to live up to someone else’s expectations.
Instead of wanting recognition, we need to constantly improve ourselves. We should be striving to be the best we can be and that recognition will come. Let’s say we practice to improve a skill of ours outside of work. We work hard and eventually master it. Acquiring a new skill will add value to what we have to offer so we become a better employee.
As we consistently improve ourselves, we soon realize that we cannot work for others who don’t do the same. We all had bosses who seemed pretty competent initially but, as time goes by, we realized that they have a limited set of skills and refuse to take criticism to improve. At that point, our improvements give us a number of options like going to another company or start our own business. This was only made possible when we strive to be the best we can be and not to meet other’s expectations.
_____
The road to success can be a lonely one because those striving for mediocrity only hold us back. As long as we remain on this journey, we’ll attract people who, like us, aim for stars.
There are a few reasons why people don’t aim for success and loneliness is one of them. After all, those who find great success in their lives discover their differences from the people around them. These differences make them outcasts in their community and society as a whole because they simply refuse to conform to the society norms.
Most people simply strive for a mediocre life. They might want great success but their actions show their lack of commitment. Oftentimes, they will hold back those with big dreams regardless if it’s intentional or not. They become the critics who try to kill the dream before it really takes off and, most of the time, they succeed in accomplishing this goal.
For the few people who get past the critics, they realize that they have no one left to support them. A tiny minority might have one or two people still there for them but, for the majority, this is a new challenge they never expected. However, they have come this far so there’s no point looking back. Determination got them past their critics and determination will keep them going on this journey.
The journey won’t remain lonely forever though because, as we pursue our dreams, we’ll meet others with similar goals and dreams. We attract one another because we are so similar and we are willing to work together towards our destination. Even if we are competing for the same thing, the other person’s presence gives us an incredible drive to improve more so we can reach the finish line before the other person.
_____
Fear is often the killer of dreams. It stops us dead in our tracks and dissuades us from even chasing our dreams. When we stop fear from controlling us, we are finally living our lives.
How many of us didn’t attempt something because fear was holding us back? It happens far too often in our lives and we simply miss out on great opportunities that could’ve changed our lives. Fear is a powerful emotion because it’s meant to protect us from danger. This emotion was ideal for our ancestors who lived in the wilderness and had to fend off predators.
Nowadays, we don’t have to worry about predators. As a result, fear should play a lesser role in our decision making. We should still trust it from time to time but we mustn’t let it control our life completely. Our current society offers a lot of risky opportunities that don’t end with our deaths if we failed. If anything, we need to attempt those opportunities to get ourselves to another level altogether.
A lot of us have certain phobias and overcoming these can be exceptionally tough. Yet, we feel exhilaration when we do overcome it. In addition, we feel confidence that we can overcome our other phobias too. A terribly shy person can push himself or herself to do door to door sales and found out interacting with strangers isn’t so bad. What’s stopping this person from attempting other activities he or she was once terrified of?
The moment we dare to take risks, we start living our lives. After all, playing it safe gets people nowhere and, often, stops people from reaching their full potential. Furthermore, the person later has regrets regarding what he or she should’ve tried. Between fear and regret, fear is a lesser enemy because there’s nothing we can do about regret as it’s in the past.
