Everyday, I'm posting a message on Twitter. That message will serve as the first (in bold) sentence for short written posts I have below.
Nobody can take your knowledge. If you lose everything, your knowledge will help you rebuild your life and even reach newer heights.
It’s easy for us to desire more money. We associate success with the amount of money we earn. Yet, we fail to realize that there’s something far more valuable than money. This something is knowledge and it’s often forgotten by society. While most people are pursuing the money, the most successful people are pursuing more knowledge that generate more money for them.
Money come and go relatively easily. We have a job to earn the money and have expenses where we spend the money. During hard times like a recession, we lose all of our money and we found ourselves possess absolutely nothing. For some people, they might never fully recover because they needed money to build and they had none of it to do so. For others, it’s a slow process before they recover and, in the meantime, they miss all the opportunities that can propel them to newer heights.
Knowledge is different and is sought after through both reading books and experiencing life. On the internet, there’s a lot of information but these won’t transform to knowledge unless we learn to apply them in our lives. Once we gain the knowledge, it’s very difficult for us to lose it. Unlike money, nobody can take our knowledge away from us.
During hard times, knowledge can be the difference maker. We can take all the money made by someone who went from rags to riches but that person will return back to his or her status in a few months. The knowledge the person possess is all the person needed to rebound very quickly after a big stumble in life.
_____
Experience is our best teacher. If we are too afraid to try new things in life, we won’t ever see what this world has to offer.
There are so many things out there we can experience. Yet, we seem to believe that school can provide with all that we need to succeed in life. While this is true for some people, most people simply need to see more of this world. The more they see, the clearer they are regarding what they want out of life.
Oftentimes, it is fear that stop people from trying something new. When we were infants, fear isn’t in most of our vocabulary as we try to touch everything and put nearly everything into our mouths. As we grow older, we seem to lose that sort of curiosity. It’s true we know better than putting anything into our mouths but we shouldn’t give up trying new things and see more of this world.
This world has so much to offer in terms of culture, history and opportunities. Seeing people living different lives can change our perspectives dramatically. If we go to poorer parts of this world, we discover that we are so fortunate with our lives. When we learn gratitude, we’ll go further as we’ll treasure every little thing we have that millions of others might not have.
As we grow older, we are penalized for failures. The penalty makes us fear failure because we view it as something terrible. To keep it at bay, we play it safe and don’t venture out of our comfort zone. As a result, we don’t experience what this world can offer and lose out on many opportunities we never even knew existed. It’s only later in life that we wonder why we didn’t try something sooner.
_____
The difference between a good and a bad life is gratitude. Two people can live similar lives but the person grateful of everything will be much happier.
It’s easy for us to get caught up in negativity. We can be surrounded by people who spread it and/or we generate it ourselves. Once we are negative, we develop a number of feelings and one of them is pity. We pity ourselves for the state we’re in and wonder why, out of all the people in the world, we were picked as the unfortunate victim.
The simple truth is that we aren’t the more unfortunate victim. Our mind just makes it appear so and we are convinced by it. Our mind is so powerful that, whatever we feed it, it manifest it into something so great that we are easily overwhelmed by it. With enough negativity, we believe that we are the most unfortunate human beings.
To combat this problem, we must see more of this world. Leaving for other places have a number of benefits. First, it lets us leave the negative environment we’ve been growing up in so less negativity is spread to us. Secondly, seeing other places helps change our perspective about life. These changes can be powerful enough to change our lives forever and, more often than not, they are small changes we tend to overlook.
There’s a big world out there and many of us don’t realize how fortunate we are. In some places, people struggle to get the basic necessities, let alone the luxuries some of us have access to. We can talk about those people but nothing touches us more than meeting them personally. In addition, we don’t know what sort of people we’ll meet on our travels and what sort of impact they’ll have on our lives.
_____
When we are in a bad situation, we generally have two decisions to make. We can either see ourselves as the victim or we take action to turn our lives around.
It’s easy to view ourselves as victims. We believe that our life is governed by the circumstances that are beyond our control. How are we supposed to affect the economy that caused us to lose our jobs? How do we accomplish great things when time is beyond our control completely? If we keep up this sort of attitude, we’ll never be the person we want to be and accomplish the things we always dreamed of.
While it seems like we have little control over a lot of aspects of society, we certainly have more control over our future. Our mindset dictates entirely who controls our future and where we’ll be headed in the years and decades to come. If we play victim, other people have the say of how our life goes. If we see ourselves as the captain of our own ship, we get to chart out our future destinations.
Mindset is such a powerful thing because our mind is capable of incredible things. We’ve all heard stories about people who defy logic with their beliefs alone. A cancer patient might have overcome overwhelming odds to defeat the terrible disease. A young child might perform feats to rescue a friend that would’ve been exceptionally tough for an adult.
The moment we believe we can change our future, our life changes. It’s true that it doesn’t change instantly because real change takes time to be noticeable. That’s often why most people don’t believe in it. We are so impatient and want instant gratification that we aren’t willing to wait for the change to fully develop. When we give up, we might just be a few steps away from a life changing experience.
_____
Our mindset is so incredibly powerful because it can turn a bad day into an average day and a good day into a better day.
We all had bad days in our lives. We wish those days would just go away but they seem to linger longer than we want them to. In truth, bad days usually begin with a bad moment. We might have missed our bus and was late for work or school. We might have accidentally hit the snooze button and missed an event we’ve been looking forward to for over a year.
The thing about bad moments is that we see them turning rest of our day bad as well. Using an example earlier, we might get yelled at by our boss or teachers for being late. Then, our work suffers and we get criticize further. It’s a downward spiral none of us want to be part of but most of us probably experienced this more than once.
Given how easy negativity spreads, we can make our day even worse when we get home, take our frustrations on our loved ones and get yelled at as well. Here, our mindset can play a big role. We can leave the negative things behind at work or school so we’ll return home without feeling frustrated and angry. The negativity essentially stops as soon as we arrive home and things can potentially improve.
It’s true that it takes practice for us to reach that sort of mindset. However, it’s well worth it when we can have fewer bad days overall in a life. During bad days, we are usually counterproductive and get nothing done. On good days, the opposite is true. To get more good days, we need to train our mind so we can overcome any bad days and ensure that we remain productive during our pursuit of our goals and dreams.
_____
Negativity spreads so easily so, if we want to make our world a better place, we need to stop adding more of it and inject some positivity.
We’ve all experienced the spreading of negativity. We just need one person with a bad day in the room who complains about everything that’s going horribly wrong. Simply listening to that person brings us down and, as a result, we become negative ourselves. Then, we go to other rooms, complain and spread more negativity until everyone we come in contact with is negative.
One reason for our unhappiness is the negativity we encounter on the news and social media. While positive things are great, it’s normally the negative things that grab headlines whether if it’s a major car crash or a natural disaster. When we are surrounded by so much negativity, it’s just so easy to be caught up in it and feel like we can never escape it.
This, however, doesn’t mean that positivity doesn’t exist. It just takes more effort to bring forward but it’s well worth it. In an environment filled with negativity, even a spark of positivity can appear like a bright star in the night sky. Something so wonderful can attract other people because they seek something that gives them hope for a better future.
We need lots of practice to notice the negative things we say to others and to ourselves. Then, it’s a matter of changing our habit by finding positives in whatever situation we might be in. Instead of cursing a traffic jam for making you late for work, see the traffic jam as a brief pause from your busy life so you can take a deep breath and relax slightly. If we can do such a thing for every bad situation in our life, then we’d have a lot fewer bad situations to deal with.
_____
Our environment is filled with so much negativity that even a spark of positivity can appear as a bright star in the night sky.
We had days when we feel like we’re surrounded by darkness. We feel lonely because we cannot find anyone to be there for us. We struggle to find a way out because our senses are overwhelmed by the darkness around us. We lose hope and, eventually, give up completely.
Then, we see a light. The light might be very dim but, compared to the darkness around us, it feels incredibly blinding. This light gives us hope so we move towards it. We want to know what’s creating the light. For those struggling with mental health, a single light source can be all the difference. The only sad part is that light isn’t common enough to reach everyone.
The light can represent a lot of things but it’s largely seen as hope. When we have hope, we keep going regardless of what adversity we face. Sufferers of mental illnesses often walk a lonely path. They cannot share their problems without being judged. Seeking professional help might not even be an option. Over time, they find themselves stuck with loneliness and negativity.
However, things don’t have to be like this. We can all do our small part and light up someone’s world, even by a tiny bit. What’s amazing about hope is that, no matter how small it is, it gives strength to a person who desperately seek it. That strength might be all they need to not only escape the darkness but also give them the momentum to reach new heights in life.
All we need is a spark of positivity to chase away the negativity we are surrounded by.
